Hi friends,

2012 is here! And this year I’ll be 25. I have made this list of 30 things to do before I’m 30, because…well, dang, I’m going to be 30 in 5 years!

If you can help me get these things done, I will love you forever, and if not, what’s on your life list??

Here it is:

1 Take a photography class.
2 Visit Ireland and drink a pint in a pub while singing an Irish bar song.
3 Eat tres leches cake in South America.
4 Go on a camping trip in Eastern Canada.
5 Learn to drive stick.
6 Make a bed-size quilt out of re-purposed fabric.
7 Run an ultramarathon.
8 Go on a road trip with my closest girlfriends.
9 Ride in a hot air balloon.
10 Adopt a dog from a shelter.
11 Learn to play a song on guitar.
12 Have a vegetable garden.
13 Speak fluent French. (currently live in Montreal!)
14 Make an article of clothing for myself that is acceptable to wear out of the house.
15 Go whale watching somewhere in Canada.
16 Spend the night in a yurt.
17 Learn to french braid my hair.
18 Go dog sledding.
19 Take my Nanny and Poppa on a wild adventure somewhere. (New York City)
20 Own a perfect “little black dress”.
21 Try indoor or outdoor rock-climbing.
22 Go on a Yoga retreat. Maybe here?
23 Make some homemade ice cream and homemade hot fudge.
24 Be completely vegan for a month.
25 Mail hand written letters to friends who I’ve been out of touch with these past few years.
26 Buy a stranger their morning coffee.
27 Send my 11 8 girlfriends from home flowers “just because”.
28 Volunteer with something like Big Sisters or United Way.
29 Scrapbook my travels in Europe.
30 Cook through a cookbook all the way through (I am currently working on The Vegetarian Collection by Canadian Living).

Rock Climbing!!! You can go outdoor rock climbing in Gatineau Park, but if you ever wanna go indoor rock climbing I’m your girl! (Warning: I’m not a pro, by any means…I just think it’s fun)

  3. Jen says:

I love this idea…I’m going to do the same thing on my blog and link back to yours 🙂 but I have one less year to do these things…
I want to do #2, sing Galway girl in Galway. I want to do #6 with old t-shirts (yes, like Renee did for Bella in Twilight). and I did #21 on Tamarack and LOVED it!
    Good luck with your list!

  4. Kathleen says:

I can help you check Nr. 4. 9. 21. off your list.
I am thinking a camping roadtrip through the Maritimes , maybe even Newfoundland. Along the route near Fundy Bay I also know this awesome place to climb. It is right near the water, super fun, and the way the rock is formed it sorta looks like bubbles so there are millions of places to dig your fingers into, a super fun way to climb. And instead of camping that night we could stay on my family’s farm just up the road. Also if you can’t wait for me, ask my parents I have some rock climbing equipment for outdoor climbing that you are welcome to borrow.

Katrina! I want to help! You should come to Guelph, we have rock climbing here AND I have scrapbooking supplies to share!

  7. I love your list! 🙂 Lots of great goals.
I too want to go whale watching somewhere in Canada. And camp in Eastern Canada. I live on the Prairies and have not really been East. I would LOVE to do a road trip from Winnipeg to the Maritimes this fall if possible.

  15. For #2, can I highly recommend the oldest pub in Ireland? It’s called the Brazen Head, and it’s located in Dublin. http://www.brazenhead.com/ I visited there in 2002, when I was 26. It’s a beautiful old pub, and definitely worthy of any bucket list. Never you mind calculating how long it’s been since I was 26! 🙂

  24. What a great list! I’m about to turn 26, and feeling that downward slope towards 30…doing something like this makes it more exciting to get to 30, instead of dreading it! 🙂

Love your new site , comments and recipes.

  26. Andi says:

Go dog sledding in Mont Tremblant. It’s incredible!

  27. Terry says:

Nice blog! For #4, go to Parc national de la Gaspésie…Mont Albert hike. For #15 (potentially on the same trip), you can cross the St. Lawrence and end up in Tadoussac. The best whale watching location is actually a campsite called Mer et Monde where you can sit and watch whales pass by. You can also kayak up the Saguenay Fjord and see belugas!

    • katrina says:

That was fast! I’m Googling all these places now and they sound fabulous. Thanks for the tips, friend!

      • Terry says:

I didn’t notice the learn fluent French comment. I am no longer speaking to you in English! Employees of the Botanical Garden speak French I’ll have you know.

  28. I’m much older than you but I have a few things on my list that I want to do before I’m too old. I was never so much into travelling but this year I made a trip to England for a language course and I found out that I love travelling and I want to visit all English speaking countries in the world, in particular: England again, Scotland, Ireland, Malta, Canada, USA, New Zealand and Australia. That’s not a little. But at least I want to have this dream and maybe I can manage to realize some of these trips. Wish you the best with the realization of your list of 30 things.

    • katrina says:

Hi! So nice of you to stop by. Having a list is so much fun! I hope you make it to all of your fantasy destinations one day 🙂

  29. maureen says:

i got to this place through your awesome Namaimo recipe. then i saw your fiddlehead tart and i knew i liked you. my list will be 30 after 40. 🙂 everything gets better with time! hope you are still working on your list. all the best!

  30. Mimi says:

Love your blog! And yay to fellow Canadians! For #3 on your list, you must go to PASTELERIA MILA in Cartagena, Colombia (gorgeous overlooked vacation spot), because they have a QUATTRO LECHES cake that is TO DIE FOR (literally I almost died when eating it but it’s so good that your body self-resuscitates to come back to life and finish it).

Otherwise, if you’re in Toronto, Playa Cabana makes a delicious tres leche 🙂

  31. I turn 25 this year and I’ve been wanting to make a list like this too! The whale watching in Canada is high up on mine – specifically orca whales (my favorite!)

  32. ahhhh.
    what a cool idea!
    I love it.
    Go adopt that dog!!!
    He’s waiting for you.

  33. Lou Ashton says:

I’m 64 and I’ve done only 7 (maybe 8 if you count that little black dress that doesn’t fit anymore). Again you’ve inspired me.
1,4,5,10,12,14, and 23 are the one’s I can check off. The hot air balloon has been on my list for a long time…. I’ll let you know when that happens.

  34. ADORE this. I’m 31, and went through some major life changes in my mid-20s that left me playing catch up through the lead-up to 30. Now that I’m beyond that milestone, I think I need a bucket list for…35? 40? (40 feels way too scary, insert see-no-evil-monkey-emoji lol.) Maybe just for life. I tend to constantly remind myself to be grateful for all I have and have done already—eschewing the bucket list concept—but I think I’d like to try my hand at it for a change! Thanks for inspiring, Katrina.

    • katrina says:

Thanks Lily! A little bucket list or list before 50 sounds perfect too! Thanks for commenting and saying hello 🙂

  35. thalooti says:

    Hi Katrina,

    12. Your own fresh vegetable garden, I also want my own little garden.
You have a little over a year to complete your list. How many wishes have already finished?

    • katrina says:

ha! I have so much more to do but I am still working on it for sure.

      So far I’ve finished:
      4, 8, 11, 15, 19, 23, 24 and 26.

      And am working on:
      1, 13, 17, 25, 27 and 30 🙂
